We’re Harry and Maddie, and together we are Squiggly Gum.
If you’re wondering why Squiggly Gum? — it all started with a little misunderstanding.
In 2023, Maddie and I went on the trip of a lifetime around the world. Our absolute favourite place was Australia — not just for the waterfalls and beaches, but because of Lucy.
Thanks to this trip, we fell in love with everything about campervan life: cooking for ourselves with rolling views, parking up in forests and beside lakes, the freedom of not having to pack up every day. And with Lucy, we could set off on endless walks and adventures along the east coast of Oz.
That’s where we met the coolest man on the planet: Tony.
Tony gave us the best tour ever of Fraser Island — and he’s the one who told us about the beautiful tree we kept spotting, the Scribbly Gum. Only… we misheard him, and thought he said Squiggly Gum.
By the time we reached Cairns and learned its real name, we’d already fallen for Squiggly Gum — and the name stuck.
Next, we needed a campervan.
We searched high and low for the perfect one: a quality engine, a well-loved vintage interior, and a short wheelbase ideal for Britain’s winding roads. We also knew vans are best with rock-and-roll beds — quick to pull out at night, and just as easy to pack away in the morning.
And then we found him: Vinny.
What’s next?
We’re adding more Vinnys — not just to increase bookings, but so people can rent them together and go on epic group adventures. We’re also expanding our collection of awesome routes around Britain, with the dream of one day creating the first trip that covers the entire coastline of this incredible country.
